All Out Africa Bushfire Composting Toilet Block
eSwatini, Malkerns, 2023
All Out Africa (AOA) engaged our services for a new project: the design of a composting toilet block for the Bushfire Festival. The block consisted of 25 toilets, all operating on a dry composting system. With the goal of conserving water, especially during the high traffic of a weekend event like Bushfire, a dry composting system was an ideal solution.
Our design included a system capable of managing the waste volume effectively, incorporating agents to aid in drying and odor control. We integrated a method to make the back of the toilets accessible for hassle-free compost removal. Additionally, air extraction was calculated to create a negative pressure within the facility to control odors. Despite being budget-friendly, the design aimed for an aesthetic appeal. The success of this system at the 2023 Bushfire Festival led to plans for constructing another block with the same sustainable approach. If you are considering such a system for your own project, we welcome you to reach out to us for more information.
